Alpine residence
Nestled in a valley surrounded by magnificent mountains, the city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen faces the rocky peaks of the Zugspitze massif. Germanys highest mountain has always been a very popular tourist magnet throughout the whole year and convinces with its natural alpine beauty.
The clients wanted this feeling of being “routed in Nature” to be transported into the interior. Hence the design principle to work with natural and local materials was formed. The house, a 1990s built, should feel much calm and light. Being big fans of Italy, the owners wanted a hint of Italian style within the Interior Concept.
As the Clients love to cook, the kitchen moved from a smaller room on the less sunny side of the house, into the largest room on the ground floor. Floor to ceiling sliding doors open up the kitchen and dining space into the garden. The stone in the kitchen is also used at the new woodfire oven. The handle detail of the carpentry, which´s design originated from the structure of the local hay shacks, has been implemented throughout the interior. Thanks to a small material palette the interior seems calm and homogenous.
